Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Lancing Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:
Non-accessible content
The following content is not fully accessible:
- Some images do not have appropriate text alternatives (WCAG 2.1 criterion 1.1.1)
- Some pages lack “skip to content” functionality (2.4.1)
- Certain forms are not fully labelled for screen reader compatibility (1.2.1, 3.3.2)
- Some older PDF and word documents are not accessible (1.3.1, 1.4.3)
- Some colour contrasts may not reach the minimum contrast ratio (1.4.3)
We aim to resolve these issues during our next accessibility review.
Content not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
- Older PDFs and documents: Some PDFs or Word documents published before 23 September 2018 are not accessible but are not essential to providing our services.
- Live video: Live video streams may not have captions because live video is exempt from the regulations.
Any new documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Lancing Parish Council is committed to continual improvement. We will:
- Conduct an annual accessibility review
- Ensure all new content and documents meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards
- Provide staff training on creating accessible PDFs and web content
- Introduce a “skip to main content” link for improved keyboard navigation
- Review and correct image alt text and heading structures
- Use accessibility checking tools (e.g. WAVE, Accessibility Insights, WordPress Accessibility Plugin) at least annually.
