Grants

Lancing Parish Council is committed, through this policy, to promote Lancing as a vibrant, active and sustainable community, and contribute to the development of projects and activities (including services) that benefit that community. In awarding grants, the Council recognises and supports the valuable contribution made by the voluntary sector to the well-being of the community.

A grant is any discretionary donation made by the Council for the specific purpose it is applied for and is generally for the well-being of the Lancing community. Lancing Parish Council makes annual provision of £5,000 and is awarded in June and October. 

 

Criteria

Applicants should note the following points:

  • Applications will only be accepted from organisations that are not-for-profit.
  • Grants will not be awarded to individuals or businesses. 
  • The Council will not normally provide grants to bridge perceived gaps in the provision of community services that are the responsibility of other authorities.
  • Grants will not usually be awarded for projects or activities already delivered or for retrospective funding.
  • Applicants who have an outstanding loan with or are financially indebted to the Council will not be considered.
  • Applicants must clearly demonstrate a direct and tangible benefit to residents of Lancing.
  • Organisations may only submit one grant application per financial year.

2025 Awards

June 2025

Lancing Community Garden – £600

To help fund two timber outbuildings for their community garden. These will provide shelter and secure tool storage, saving volunteers time and effort.

Apron Community Farm – £800

To create a community farm, wetaland and heritage craft centre for the diverse local community. With this funding they aim to carry out further community engagement sessions, including comms and marketing, materials, accessibility measures, refreshments. To create a safe and accessible pedestrian entrance at the lower paddock for volunteers and visitors to attend the farm. Also toilets and handwashing facilities for volunteers and visitors.

Lancing and Sompting Men in Sheds – £800

To cover essential running costs for the next year. This will enable them to continue providing weekly shed sessions that support older men in the community and deliver free community projects for schols, charities and local residents.

Electric Storm Youth – £1000

To launch a community initiative to train local teenagers in essential first aid, including CPR, allergies and defibrillator use. Once trained, the teenagers will partner with qualified first aiders to share age appropriate sessions to local primary school children. As part of this initiative, they will also install a public access defibrillator outside the Electric Storm Youth retail shop.

Lancing Bowling Club – £400

To replace their unstable disabled toilet with a new comfort height disabled toilet and to replace the electric water heater over the sink to meet current legislation requirements.

3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scouts – £1000

For safety equipment, in particular new life jackets and helmets for water activities.

Adur Special Needs Project – £400

To help cover the costs of running ASNP playscheme for SEND children age 5-15 across Adur, for one day. The playscheme supports SEND children who are often isolated and find friendships difficult by providing a space of freedom to have fun in a supportive and understanding environment. This also allows families and carers much needed respite.

November 2025

Lancing and Sompting Churches Foodbank – £1000

To enable Lancing and SOmpting Churches Foodbank to continue to provide food parcels to people in food need in Lancing.

World of Widewater – £500

To improve the environment for the public and for wildlife around Widewater Lagoon, fixing and maintaining structures and repairing and repainting. It will also help to support educational partnerships.

South Coast Skating – £1000

To support families with children who receive free school meals, pupil premium, who have special education needs, or who are in care.

2024

  • Men in Sheds (Lancing and Sompting) – £1000 towards fixings and fittings for projects throughout 2024/2025
  • Adur Voluntary Action – £1484 towards a pilot project for a Lancing based repair cafe operating once a month
  • Corner Atelier – £561 towards holiday activities in the Community Hub in the school holidays
  • Fabric Community Gardens – £500 toward a rechargeable battery lawnmower, an additional picnic table and public liability insurance

  • Compass Travel (Sussex)  were awarded £12000 to facilitate the no.16 bus service until 31st March 2025.

  • 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scouts – £1,000 towards replacement Go Pack tables
  • 4sight Vision Support – £200 towards support for Lancing residents with sight loss
  • Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex – £300 towards air ambulances, crews etc
  • Albion in the Community – £500 towards signed footballs for a raffle
  • Compass Bus – £7,500 as a subsidiary for the #16 bus route
  • Corner Atelier – £600 towards funding school holiday activities
  • Keep Lancing Lovely – £200 towards uniforms and equipment for activities
  • Lancing Bowling Club – £4,000 towards a replacement equipment store
  • Lancing Skatepark Community – £500 towards skatepark ramp extensions

  • Men in Sheds (Lancing and Sompting) – £1000 towards work using reclaimed materials for bug hotels, bird and bat boxes etc. Key area(s): Waste Reduction
  • St Barnabas Hospices (Sussex) – £650 to buy gardening equipment to run a gardening group. Key area(s): Biodiversity
  • Lancing Fabric Community Garden – £750 to purchase electric tools, strimmers, gloves, kneeling pads, topsoil, water butts. Key area(s): Biodiversity, Food and Waste Reduction.
  • Friends of Sir Robert Woodard Academy – £600 towards the creation of small garden area on roof of sixth form building to show how water can be harvested from a small area. Key area(s): Waste Reduction and Water
  • Keep Lancing Lovely – £1000 towards replacing equipment, purchase of books and polo shirts. Key area(s): Climate Resilience and Waste Reduction
  • Lancing and Sompting Churches Food Bank – £1000 over six months to purchase food for the food bank. Key area(s): Food

  • Lancing Parish Council awarded a grant of £5,000 to 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scouts from the Community Project Fund for the training ship “Supeta” which will support adventure activities for Lancing youth.

  • Adur Special Needs – £500 to cover the costs of two sessions for one month.
  • Air Ambulance – £500 to continue to deliver potentially life-saving work.
  • Cycall Grant – £500 towards the cost of adapting a trike for disabled children.
  • Lancing Flower Club – £500 to cover the cost of room hire.
  • Lancing Football Club – £500 to cover the costs of lost revenue through Covid-19.
  • Lancing Traders Association – £500 to cover the costs towards the setup of a revised shopper loyalty scheme.
  • Men in Sheds – £500 To assist with the costs of turning a building into suitable premises for Men in Sheds to use, e.g. replacement front & rear doors, hand washing facilities.
  • St Barnabas Hospice – £500 to pay for 15 visits of palliative care to residents in the Lancing area.
  • SWRA Allotment Club – £500 to replace the shed for school’s allotment site.
  • Victim Support – £500 towards the costs of training volunteers etc.

2019

  • Adur Special Needs Project – £1,475 to provide 20 playschemes per annum 5-15 year olds in Adur, which also provides valuable respite for the children’s families.
  • Lancing Self Help Group for the Blind – £200 to provide members with some professional entertainment within the group’s overall events calendar.
  • Lancing Traders Association – £1,000 to design, build and implement a mobile App to provide residents with an online directory of businesses in Lancing and provide a platform for the Lancing traders to offer discounts and loyalty schemes to residents.
  • Greenpower Race Team (SRWA) – £600 towards the design, build and development of a battery powered race car to compete against other South East Schools.
  • St Barnabas Hospices – £1,025 to pay for 15 visits to patients in Lancing area by the Community Palliative Care Nursing Team.
  • Victim Support – £700 to provide members with some professional entertainment within the group’s overall events calendar.

2018

  • Adur Special Needs Project – £2,075 towards the overall annual running costs.
  • Boundstone Chorus – £1,000 to create a new musical based on Lancing’s links with smuggling. The grant requested was to contribute towards the printing of the scripts and vocal scores.
  • Friends, Families and Travellers – £500 to put on Crystal Vardo production at the Parish Hall – a play about the history of Romany Gypsies targeted at all ages and raises awareness of Gypsy and Traveller history and culture.
  • Girlguiding Lancing – £1,875 to fund new resources for the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers following a recent revamp of all the badges and activities, to enable the full programme to be on offer to all girls.
  • Lancing and Sompting Concert Band – £400 to purchase 2 protective Timpani drum covers.
  • Lancing Football Club – £1,500 to help fund the set up of a Disability Team and more girl’s teams to ensure all parts of the community were reached.
  • Lancing Parish Youth Council – £600 towards the creation of community garden at the rear of Parish Hall for use by a local Nursery and wider community with a view to children learning more about where food comes from.
